How to get here

By sea: From Orkney mainland, take a ferry from Houton to Lyness with Orkney Ferries. We are 6 miles from Lyness.

By car/bike: From Lyness ferry terminal follow the road for about half a mile until you reach a T junction. Turn right onto the B9048 and follow the road for about 6 miles. Just before a causeway (The Ayre) turn right. Follow the coastal road for about half a mile to reach the museum.

Getting to us by bus is not straightforward: Currently the local bus service only meets the first ferry and the last ferry from Lyness. This means arriving 2 hours before we open at 11am. However the afternoon service can take you from the museum road end to the last ferry at Lyness. The bus drop off/pick up stop is a pleasant half hour coastal walk from the museum.
